Background of the Study

Financial literacy is a critical determinant of business success, particularly for small-scale enterprises such as restaurants. It encompasses the knowledge and skills required to make informed financial decisions, including budgeting, pricing, and cost management. For small restaurants in Abeokuta, Ogun State, financial literacy is essential for profitability in a highly competitive market.

Recent studies, such as Adekunle et al. (2023), reveal that many small restaurant owners in Nigeria lack basic financial knowledge, leading to poor cash flow management and unsustainable business practices. Inadequate financial literacy not only hampers profitability but also increases the risk of business failure. This study explores the role of financial literacy in enhancing the profitability of small restaurants in Abeokuta, highlighting its importance in improving financial decision-making and operational efficiency.
